CFTA accepts both individual and institutional membership enrollments. Membership is open to non-commercial (not-for-profit) organizations and commercial institutions / businesses. This page outlines the types of membership categories and membership details.

The CFTA Membership Year To align with our annual conference and ensure attendees represent a majority of our voting members during the All Member Meeting, the standard membership term runs from August 1st through July 31st. Members are entitled to all benefits associated with their member level during that time.

Individual Campus Membership

For non-profit, non-commercial professionals

• Cost: $100 per year

• Voting Rights: Yes. Campus members may vote in member meetings and serve as CFTA leadership. 

• Join or renew as an Individual Campus member

Individual Business Partner Membership

For for-profit, commercial professionals, and service providers

• Cost: $200 per year

• Voting Rights: Not a voting member and not able to serve as CFTA leadership. However, committees and task forces are always looking for members.

Institutional Campus Membership

For group/bulk purchase, non-profit, non-commercial professionals

Institutional membership provides non-profit, non-commercial organizations with a streamlined way to manage memberships for multiple individuals.

There are two primary reasons to choose an institutional membership:

1. Single Invoice: Consolidate multiple individual payments into one annual invoice.

2. Cost Savings: If your institution has 10 or more members, this tier provides a volume discount.

Institutional Pricing & Limits

• Base Cost: $100 per person.

• Volume Cap: The cost caps at $1,000 which covers up to 20 members.

• Additional Members: If your institution exceeds 20 members, additional memberships can be added for $100 per member.

The Point Person

Each institution must designate a primary contact, referred to as the Point Person, to manage the membership. Their responsibilities include:

• Billing & Renewals: Serving as the primary billing contact. Renewal payments can be made between 60 days prior to and 30 days after July 31st.

• CFTA Communication: Scheduling a kickoff meeting with the CFTA Secretary (if needed) and communicating with a CFTA board member for an annual review to re-confirm the member list.

• Managing Users: Communicating any additions, drops, or transfers to the user list. The initial list does not need to be complete at sign-up. Please allow up to 2 weeks for changes to process.

• Transitioning: If the Point Person leaves the organization, they must ensure a new Point Person is assigned. Otherwise communication will be sent to all remaining members to designate one.

Transferring Memberships An institutional membership can be transferred between employees of the same institution without additional costs (e.g., if a current member leaves the organization). The Point Person must communicate transfers to the CFTA Secretary.

Adding Members Mid-Year (For institutions with under 10 members) If you are paying per person and add members during the membership year, the cost is prorated:

• August 1st – January 31st: Full price ($100)

• February 1st – July 31st: Half price ($50)

Switching Membership Types Institutional members can switch back to individual memberships at the institution’s next renewal date.

Prorating Existing Individual Members during an Upgrade If your institution upgrades to an Institutional Membership and your staff already hold active individual memberships, a prorated credit will be applied toward your first year's institutional invoice:

• Full Credit ($100): Applied for individual memberships expiring in the first half of the membership year (July 31st – January 31st).

• Half Credit ($50): Applied for individual memberships expiring in the second half of the membership year (February 1st – July 31st).

Example Prorating Scenario An institution wants to purchase the $1,000 package (up to 20 people) for the 2024–2025 year (August 1, 2024 – July 31, 2025). They currently have three staff members with existing individual licenses:

• Member A: Expires March 31, 2025 (Second half of year = $50 credit)

• Member B: Expires July 31, 2025 (First half of year = $100 credit)

• Member C: Expires September 1, 2025 (First half of year = $100 credit)

Calculation: The institution receives a total credit of $250. Their remaining balance is $750 for an Institutional Membership expiring on July 31, 2025.
